Andreas Grimm studied musicology, ethnology, and English in Cologne and London. During his studies, he composed his first stage works for the comedy group Die Niegelungen. After various roles as a music critic and as an author for radio and television, he developed the musical concept for the tv news parody „Die Wochenshow“ and delivered countless playbacks, advertising parodies, and underscoring for the show until 2002.

In 2003, he composed his first major film score for Der Wixxer (The Trixxer) and was awarded The German Film Critics Prize. His extensive work includes scores for numerous productions such as Pastewka, Käpt'n Blaubär, Ladykracher, Hilfe! Hochzeit!, Kinder, Kinder, Fröhliche Weihnachten!, Elton vs. Simon, and Zwei Weihnachtsmänner.

Beyond Der WiXXer his movie scores include the Knight Rusty movies and Die Nacht der lebenden Loser.

Besides composing, he enjoys performing live, which helps counterbalance the solitary nature of composing. He played keyboards for bands such as Dissidenten, Max Mutzke, the Stefan Raab Band, and acted as musical director for the Lena Meyer-Landrut concert band, among others.

Andreas Grimm is a board member of mediamusic e.V., as well as a member of the Composers Club and the German Film Composers Union (DEFKOM). Since 2008, he has been Professor of Media Composition at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, and since 2023 also serves as its vice-rector for teaching.
