Der WiXXer
Feature Film2004Comedy, Mystery, Crime, Parody89 minutes

Andreas Grimm: Der WiXXer is, first and foremost, a genre parody. But it is also an effortless homage to the kind of films our parents used to love—in case of the Edgar Wallace-movies, a celebration of the ever-recurring patterns of black-and-white storytelling, aristocratic characters, expressionist shadow play, and peculiar murder weapons.
Andreas Grimm: The film score supports the narrative both dramatically and emotionally while simultaneously following numerous film-historical and genre references, even extending to a small musical sequence. Parodic humor generally does not arise from “funny” music but rather from the contrast between audience expectations and the deliberately mismatched patterns of action. The music cements the parodied genre—occasionally through deliberate exaggeration.
About the Film
Der WiXXer parodies the 1960s Edgar Wallace films and is based on a radio play series of the same name from Frühstyxradio (FFN). Developed by Oliver Kalkofe and Oliver Welke, the story follows the bumbling inspector duo Very Long and Even Longer as they pursue the mysterious WiXXer. The film is packed with references that are particularly appreciated by fans of the original radio plays. In addition to Joachim Fuchsberger and Chris Howland, numerous prominent actors from the original Wallace films made guest appearances.
